The Interview - Kalenga Augustine Mulenga
https://kamulenga.com/When you're working on a book and a new idea pops up, should you pursue it immediately (also known as 'UP syndrome') or finish your current project first? What do you think is the best course of action?
I am a children's books author so when a new idea for a book pops up, I write the whole manuscript in a day. I am methodical so the new book will go to the back of the queue while I complete my current project.
Which character do you enjoy writing the most as a writer and why? If choosing a favorite character is like choosing a favorite child, which character do you find requires the most attention and detail from you as a writer?
I have published 33 children's books to date and my characters vary from little children to mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns. Sometimes I get requests to have a specific animal as a main character, for example, my sister has a pig farm and asked me to write about pigs so I wrote Piggly the Angry Piglet. So, in a nutshell, I enjoy writing about all characters but the one that requires the most attention is my animal characters because I need to do some research on the specific animal.
Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in [jobs/education] in your writing?
I am a qualified accountant and tax practitioner so the business side of my writing is beneficial especially when it comes to cost, profits, tracking income, etc.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I don't have any unusual writing habits. The only thing is that I don't write on paper, all my manuscripts are done on my laptop or phone.
Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you deal with it?
I have never experienced writer's block (touch wood)!
