The Interview - KJ Backford

Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in [jobs/education] in your writing?
Yes, I have incorporated my extensive travels and work overseas in my writing. In my first book, The Blackmail Enigma, I wrote extensively about Senegal in Africa, where I lived and worked for 5 years. In Where Sunflowers Stand I was able to rely on having lived in Moscow for 2 years, working. I often visited Ukraine, and this war is near and dear to my heart.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually write early in the morning. This allows me to go to the gym and to the beach in the afternoons.
What is your take on book boyfriends? Do they actually exist? Or do they set the bar for “real life men” impossibly high?
I'm not familiar with book boyfriends since I write espionage thrillers and try to keep romance out of my stories.
What are you reading right now?
I just finished The Elias Enigma, and espionage thriller. I was not particularly impressed.
What can we anticipate from you moving forward?
I am currently between books, but I am planning to write another espionage thriller with Alex, my protagonist from Where Sunflowers Stand.
