Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].

I enjoyed uncovering evidence that I utilized to construct a timeline that I used to hang my stories on. This gave me a clearer understanding of what actually occurred in those 11 years. I was able to answer for myself questions that had haunted me for many decades through my rabid desire to know the truth.

Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in [jobs/education] in your writing?

Yes. These stories are my life experience. I have many memories of those years. Some where wonderful. Time in a sense did not exist, only hope. My book is nothing but my daily experiences which drifted from wonder to horror nearly every day. Being lost in those extremes shaped my life. My experiences fill every page of this book.

Describe the [book/series] in 10 words or less for people who are just learning about it.

My Name's Not Buddy is: A collection of stories narrating my first 11 years.

Would you like readers to have any specific takeaway from your book?

Tragedy strikes everyone sooner or later. If you're born and have a will to live you will struggle with tragedy but you can still find wonder, amazement, and love, if you try.

Share some advice for aspiring authors. What advice would you give to your younger self?1. What is your favorite line from your book?

Write about what you know. It's the only authentic way to create and never doubt. You have a story to tell.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I have many hobbies including playing music and photography. They all keep me very busy.

Was there anything you had to research for the book?

Yes, I had to research many public records like birth dates, marriage licenses, school records, death certificates, arrest and prison records, newspaper articles and stories told to me and sometimes confirmed by my family members.

Did you have any say in the cover design?

Yes. I designed the cover. Total creative control was mine.

What can we anticipate from you moving forward?

My life after 11 years old.

Do you have any movie or tv adaptations in the works?

Only ideas. Time will tell.

Did you always want to be an author? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Before I was in my late teens I never thought about what I wanted to be when I grew up. College never entered my mind. No one in my family had been to college. Owning a home or being wealthy never entered my mind as a child. All those things happened for other people but not me.

How long did it take you to write this book?

A life-time. I'm obsessed with my memories. I hoped the book would help me settle them. Though it gives me great relief to have written the book, all of the pain remains. And more than that, the loss.

Are any of the characters in your book based on people in your real life? If so, can you tell us more about that process and how it influenced your writing?

Every character in my book is a real living person. Some are gone but all of them existed and to the best of my ability and biographical record I have reproduced them faithfully in my book.
