The Interview - Maddy Dychtwald

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I love the initial spark of inspiration when a new idea takes shape. There's something magical about those early moments of creation when anything feels possible.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Don't be afraid to write badly at first. The important thing is to get your ideas down on paper; you can always revise and improve later. Also, read widely and voraciously—it's one of the best ways to learn and be inspired.

How do you handle constructive criticism of your work?

I welcome constructive criticism as an opportunity for growth. While it can be tough to hear, I try to approach feedback with an open mind and focus on how I can use it to strengthen my writing.

What do you hope readers take away from your work?

Ultimately, I hope my writing resonates with readers on some level, whether it's through thought-provoking themes, engaging characters, or simply providing an escape from reality for a little while.

What's the most rewarding aspect of being a writer for you?

For me, the most rewarding aspect is connecting with readers and knowing that something I've written has touched them in some way. Whether it's sparking an emotion, sparking a thought, or simply providing entertainment, knowing that my words have made a difference is incredibly fulfilling.

Can you discuss a particularly memorable moment in your writing career?

One memorable moment was when I received my first acceptance letter from a publisher. It validated years of hard work and rejection, reminding me that perseverance pays off in the end.

How do you decide when a piece of writing is finished and ready for publication?

Knowing when a piece is finished can be subjective, but I trust my instincts and the feedback from beta readers or editors. I strive for a balance between striving for perfection and recognizing when further revisions would be counterproductive.
