What inspired you to start writing, and how did you discover your unique voice as an author?

I started writing at the age of eight. It just seemed to come natural to me. I started writing poetry and short stories.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are struggling to complete their manuscripts or find their voice?

A blank page can't be edited. Concentrate on what you have to say, not on how you write it, that's what editors are for. Your words can educate or entertain and it needs to be shared.

Winning your first book award must have been an incredible experience. Can you tell us about that moment and how it has impacted your writing career?

It definitely was an exciting time. I won bronze, but I'm believing for Gold with the next book. It has given me a stamp of approval from readers that I probably would have never reached and I'm grateful.

Can you share a bit about your writing process? Do you have any specific routines or rituals that help you stay productive and creative?

I don't have any rituals or routines, but I do keep several notebooks and journals near by for those moments I get a thought or an idea. I usually think about it, pray about it and then write about it.

Can you share any upcoming projects or books that your readers can look forward to?

Yes, I'm trying my hand at something different. I'm writing an illustrated first chapter book for girls. It's about a girl that goes on a journey to meet new people that don't look like her. I'm excited to release it.
