The Interview - Jasveer Dangi
https://www.jasveersinghdangi.com/What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?
I am a big fan of the Indian author Chetan Bhagat and all his books. Mark Manson left his mark with The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k. I think everyone needs to read this book once. Jane Mitchell did a fantastic job describing life in Kashmir with The Chalkline. Self-help book, You Can Heal Yourself by Louise Hays was fantastic.
Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].
Writing frees my soul. Its the best stress buster there is and the best part is, it doesn't cost anything to write.
What have you found to be most challenging about writing in [genre]?
Writing comes easy to me because I have been a storyteller all my professional life, and the publishing process is easy as well. Its the marketing that I find very challenging. Thanks to a tsunami of self-publishing and vanity publishing companies, the market has become very competitive and everyday thousands of books are published. This makes marketing a tough cookie to crack and it is very difficult to keep your book visible for a longtime.
Do you identify with your main character or did you create a character that is your opposite?
I have written over 10 fiction and non-fiction books (10 as an author and 2 as a co-author). My fictional characters are totally opposite of me because one of them is a spy, and the other one is a demi-god.
To date, what is your favorite (or most difficult) chapter you have ever written?
There are multiple chapters from different books which are close to my heart. My first book Version One and a Half talks about my childhood memories and every chapter that mentions about my parents is my favourite chapter. In my latest book, The Hunter Genesis - Book 2 (Revelation), a chapter takes the Hunter move through different timelines looking into his past. This was something I had created for the first time and by far it is my favourite chapter of the book.
Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you deal with it?
I am currently going through a writers block and step 1 to deal with it is to not worry too much about it. Many authors struggle with writers block because they are always trying different things to overcome it. Since I don't worry too much about it, it keeps me relaxed. I know that my writing buds will tingle once again very soon. Till then I taking a break.
What are you reading right now?
I am reading a book called Love by Chance by an Indian author, Mansi Kashyap.
Where do you like to write? In a coffee shop? In your home office? On the beach?
I am not a very disciplined writer so I can write anytime, anywhere. I don't need a computer or a laptop to write, I can write on my phone. My forth book, The Metro-maniac Chronicles was completely written while I travelled in public transit back in India.
What other hobbies do you have outside of writing?
I am an outdoor person and I love to explore nature. The sound of water is very peaceful to me so love to visit water bodies of all kinds.
Do you have any personal connection to the story or characters?
While the characters in the Hunter Genesis might be fictional, the places and situations are very much inspired by my real life experiences during visits to those places. Also, I like to use everyday situations and characters inspired by real people around me.
