Interview with Indian writer and academic - Rishikesh Upadhyay

Tell us a little about yourself and what got you in to writing?

Well, I grew up in a small Nepalis’ hamlet, Bhanjang Basti, via, Mahadev Tilla, just a few kilometer from Haflong in the district headquarter of North Cachar Hills (now Dima Hasao), India. My parents, Pitamber Upadhaya (father)

Tell us what you enjoy most about writing?

I enjoy writing articles, research articles, book chapters, non-fiction titles, children's, poems, etc.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Well, besides writing, my interests are teaching, doing research work, pouring water into plants, sitting with a laptop, thinking, eating, sleeping and watching TV with my family members.

How long did it take you to write a particular book?

About 3 to 7 years.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

These may vary. Would you please spend some time thinking about your reason for writing a book? Be prepared to invest a thousand hours, energy and perhaps many more, to finish a book you are proud to share with your friends and family. Make writing a hobby or passion, not for earning money. Revising and polishing your work before submitting it is also essential.
