The Interview - Alec Cizak

What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?

Read Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, and Jim Thompson.

Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].

I suppose my default genre is "dirty realism." I like writing it because I know it makes all the correct people nervous to hear the truth about this world.

What have you found to be most challenging about writing in [genre]?

Dealing with gatekeepers in publishing has been the most difficult aspect. Talent and creativity are not valued in this world.

Describe the [book/series] in 10 words or less for people who are just learning about it.

Crime fiction short stories that upset the status quo.

Would you like readers to have any specific takeaway from your book?

Think for yourself. It's painful these days, I know. The corporations who own Western governments want obedient, mindless worker consumers. That's why they've encouraged spinless sheep to attack free speech. They don't want to hear any criticism of their products. Being an individual today is the most dangerous thing you can be. You will lose friends. Family members will turn on you. Be a warrior. Look at history--the heroes are always those who challenge the zeitgeist.

Did you have any say in the cover design?

Yes.

What are you reading right now?

I'm reading a very scholarly book on Debussy.

What can we anticipate from you moving forward?

More fiction.

Do you have any movie or tv adaptations in the works?

I do, but I can't discuss them just yet.

Did you always want to be an author? If not, what did you want to be when you grew up?

It was never a choice. That's what the gutless gatekeepers trying to ruin publishing today don't understand--you can't make someone stop writing just because you're threatened by what they write.

How long did it take you to write this book?

The stories for my latest book were written over an 8-year period.

Where do you like to write? In a coffee shop? In your home office? On the beach?

I write wherever I can.

What other hobbies do you have outside of writing?

You don't want to know.

Are any of the characters in your book based on people in your real life? If so, can you tell us more about that process and how it influenced your writing?

Yes. No, I can't share any of that information.
