The Interview - Josephine Nelson

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what led you to write A Life Written Before Time?
I grew up believing I was the author of my own destiny. I was taught that if I wanted something in life, I had to go out and make it happen — no one would do it for me. That mindset shaped how I approached everything: goals, decisions, even faith. I was constantly striving, planning, and trying to chart my own course. But eventually, I hit a wall. Everything I thought I was building began to crumble, and in the silence that followed, the Holy Spirit whispered to me: “Surrender — there’s a book written about you whose Author is God.”
That moment changed everything. It led me to a deeper understanding that my life had already been written before time began. A Life Written Before Time came from that revelation — a testimony of what happens when we stop striving and start trusting the Author of our story.
What message do you hope readers take away from this book?
That their story is not random. God has written every chapter of our lives with intention, even before we were born. Through every delay, detour, and disappointment, His plan is unfolding. I hope readers walk away with renewed trust in God's timing and love.
The title is powerful. How did you come up with A Life Written Before Time?
It was inspired by Psalm 139:16 — “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” That verse became a lifeline during a difficult season. The title reflects that truth: our lives are not accidents; they’re authored by God before time began.
What was the hardest part about writing this book?
Writing it meant reliving moments of deep pain and surrender. It was hard being that vulnerable on the page. But I knew that healing doesn’t just come from hiding — it comes from telling the truth. And that made it worth it.
Who do you hope reads this book?
Anyone struggling to understand their purpose, dealing with delays, or questioning whether God sees them. It’s especially for those who love God but feel stuck between promise and fulfillment.
