The Interview - Gordon Blitz

How did you become an author and get published? Share your experience.
After I retired in 2017, I became a writing machine and submitted over 600 short stories and novels since then. Luckily my first novel Shipped Off was published by Running Wild Press and since then I've been published by Tofu Ink Arts Press and the Shortish Project in addition to self publishing.
When you're working on a book and a new idea pops up, should you pursue it immediately (also known as 'UP syndrome') or finish your current project first? What do you think is the best course of action?
I never work on two projects at the same time.
Which character do you enjoy writing the most as a writer and why? If choosing a favorite character is like choosing a favorite child, which character do you find requires the most attention and detail from you as a writer?
Characters that become empowered due to an emotional crisis in their life.
Can you explain your writing process? Do you prefer to create an outline and plan beforehand, or do you prefer to write more spontaneously and organically?
I write organically and spontaneously. Two hours a day in the morning when I am most productive

Tell us what you enjoy most about writing [genre].
Mystery
What have you found to be most challenging about writing in [genre]?
Although I love writing mysteries--making all the pieces work is difficult. I don't outline mu novels. I let the characters go where they naturally want to. In a mystery this causes a problem so I can have to constantly rewrite beginning chapters.
Have you been able to incorporate your previous experience in [jobs/education] in your writing?
yes-working as an accountant for 40 years gave me organizational skills and problem solving-two characteristics that have helped my writing
Do you identify with your main character or did you create a character that is your opposite?
I identify with my main character based on my journey of feeling shammed by being called a sissy until I learned to love my feminine qualities.
Describe the [book/series] in 10 words or less for people who are just learning about it.

Last chapter of It's No Laughing matter because it made me and my editor cry
What is your take on book boyfriends? Do they actually exist? Or do they set the bar for “real life men” impossibly high?
if a book boyfriend lets himself cry than that is a win-win
Was there anything you had to research for the book?
no
