Why self-publish your book as an audiobook?

There are many resources for self-publishing audiobooks. I use ACX.com which has written and video tutorials. It is free to join. You can narrate your book if you have a good recording system. Otherwise, you can submit a sample of your book to have narrators read. I usually listen to 5 or more narrator samples before picking one to narrate my book. You can pay a flat fee to the narrator you select or you can share royalties with your narrator. Compare the narrator's reading to what you have written to catch mistakes. Some narrators do transition music, soft background music, and/or sound effects. I ask if the narrator wants to add music or sound effects. If yes, I refer them to freesound.org and remind them not to play them too loud because listeners might wear earphones.
